During the black-tie benefit, many of the city’s most prominent business, community and civic leaders showed their support for women’s health and celebrated the evening surrounded by a stunning décor of silver centerpieces overflowing with blue and purple hydrangeas. The $500 per ticket gala raised nearly $900,000, which will continue to support critical initiatives in women's health at Prentice. "We are very inspired by the generous philanthropy of our friends and supporters in the Chicago community," said Trina Gordon McCallister, Friends of Prentice board president. "These resources will enable us to continue our mission of improving the quality of healthcare for women and infants by supporting research, early detection and clinical trials for gynecologic cancers and advances in prenatal diagnoses. Additionally, we are proud to support six investigators at Northwestern, who are the first recipients of our Friends of Prentice Competitive Grants." The evening began with a silent auction during which guests were invited to bid on items such as spectacular trips and once-in-a lifetime experiences. Attendees also had the opportunity to preview the highly sought-after live auction items including a luxurious 5-night trip to Austria, a private in-home concert by musician John Oates and a Bandon Dunes Golf Resort trip including transportation to Oregon on a private jet. Tiffany & Co. added glitter and glitz to the evening by donating a stunning "Sixteen Stone" ring by famed Tiffany designer Jean Schlumberger comprised of 18-karat yellow gold, platinum and diamonds as the grand prize in the raffle. After the silent auction, guests were escorted into the Grand Ballroom and greeted by Masters of Ceremony, Karen Jordan and Christian Farr, both Chicago television personalities. A three-course dinner followed the opening remarks. The evening ended in color and whimsy, as guests took part in the gala’s signature event, the "Grand Giveaways." Attendees vied for hundreds of donated items handed out by a parade of enthusiastic volunteers. Giant toys, sports gear, and glow-in-the dark memorabilia, were just a few of the many items distributed during this unique element of the evening. The culmination of the Gala was marked by the Navy Pier fireworks and guests dancing the night away to the sounds of Lynne Jordan and the Shivers. Co-chairs for the gala were Carol L. Bernick, Erica Goldman, Christopher Newton, Joanne DeSanctis Kirk and Stanley M. Pillman, all of Chicago. Trina Gordon McCallister serves as Friends of Prentice board president.
